I stumbled across this article at Gigaom.com talking about how Snapguide is trying to be the how to guide for everything – on your mobile. The idea is quite simple really – anyone can create and upload a step-by-step guide using text, photos, and videos for a particular task/topic then others can search and find a relevant guide when they need one.

I have been looking at live video streaming tools for mobile and have tested several in preparation to writing a blog, but yesterday found that Robin Good had published an excellent guide of 11 such tools along with side-by-side their key features and options. His is an excellent overview with a comparison chart plus individual product descriptions.

The supported learning asset formats are videos, product usage guides or manuals, checklists, podcasts, etc. The product allows take photos, shoot videos, or record audio and share with colleagues. In the meanwhile I just want a book that gets me there, inside the text, guided by the text or media. But here again I do not seem to see video integration. And there is of course iBooks 2 which does enable video integration in eBooks but also 3D models etcetera, but what I am looking for is a cross platform solution. BUT, the video is not mentioned. Great stuff, yet.

With Qik, you can share that lousy video with the world - and, surprisingly, its a lot of fun. Qik is a social networking tool that gives the cell phone video camera a reason for existing. Its simple and easy: a Twitter for those who prefer video. Apparently, the iPhones camera really is capable of shooting video, no matter what Apple says, but until Apple decides to offer video as a feature, no video apps will make it into the app section of the iTunes Store. Streaming isnt perfectly live; there are several seconds of lag time in most videos.

You could place barcodes on items in the physical world, which would guide learners through an immersive simulation or guided tour. Finally, my favorite, a person could annotate an experience based on the event identified by the QR code or bar code and that annotation could include pictures, audio and video from the event (all captured with the mobile device of course). I’m sure you can think of plenty of uses for the QR/Barcode in mobile learning. Barcodes could link to museum information and launch a multimedia experience on the device.

As soon as the videos are recorded they are transferred to our servers and (pending approval) are viewable by all staff and students. So we've created a system that records chefs, this in itself is nothing new, we've had the ability to use video cameras in class for years; where's the benefit to the learners and most of all the teachers? The chef has to grab another chicken.

A few resources online that provide this service (for a fee) include Museum411 , Guide by Cell , and Spatial Adventures (free 30 day trial). Visiting local museums has traditionally been a part of K-12 education.
