My first encounter with informal badges was through discussion forums where the more reputed, helpful participants got several stars next to their name, indicating their answers were worth reading. Unfortunately the funding did not come through to move to this next, global level. But as time went by those informal badges captured the attention of public, learning projects.

I can’t help but be bowled over when I try to get my head around exactly how many people are doing useful tasks on their phones. like the stats, above, as they are a pretty accurate, global summary. Many of the stats are by their nature skewed. good rule of thumb is that “the more financially viable, the more accurate the stats”.

The same survey, conducted by Kelton Global and commissioned by Surescripts, showed that patients would like the option of communicating with their providers via email or text instead of phone only. The bottom line is that digital tools like text messaging improve healthcare access, boost patient satisfaction, and help facilitate care coordination. There has to be a better way.
