Emerging trends in education and mobile learning

Steve Vosloo

Overlapping of education trends and mobile-enabled opportunities. Why is this technological innovation different for education than previous moments (for example, the rise of television or the popularity of personal computers)? I don’t believe that technology is the single driver of education transformation, although it is certainly a key influencing factor. Education is under pressure to change because of a number of factors. Recently, a United Nations task team led by UNESCO produced a  think piece on education and skills  beyond 2015 – key points listed below.

For students, they can import an existing PowerPoint presentation and just draw and highlight over the top of slides, all the while verbally explaining, and export to a movie that encapsulates their understanding much better than the mere slides would. For educators, it means the option to create video podcasts is now available whenever and wherever we require it. link]. above.

Cell Phones in Education Part 5: Instant Feedback

The Mobile Learner

Several weeks ago, I wrote a blog post discussing instant feedback using a back-channel titled: The Back-Channel Effect: Are Educators Ready for Real-Time Feedback. In that blog post, I suggested that real-time feed-back is being utilized by presenters and industry to gauge the experience of their audiences or their customers.  I also suggested that using tools that provide real-time feedback can allow teachers to gauge the understanding of students during a lesson.  In that blog post, I suggested that social networking sites can be a tool to allow for that type of feedback.

What does the new iPad mean for education?

uLearning Blog

Significantly, my number one item for how the new 2012 iPad will impact education is not the new 2012 iPad at all – its the fact that the 2011 iPad 2 is now much more affordable for schools – $100, or a permanent 20% discount in fact. Many schools are looking at Android tablets for various reasons at present, but the fact that there are only a few hundred tablet apps, and because experienced educators such as this one see them as only a gadget, not platform choice for schools makes those 200,000+ choices all the more pertinent. -  apple.com/iPad.
