Israeli Microsoft developers just came up with On(X) a WONDERFUL way to get some automation to your personal - my personal - android driven phone (well, not all Android, so check if it matches your phone before getting excited). The learners on desktops will see the application in flash, the others on html5. Although the tool will only be launched in March 2011, I had the pleasure of playing around with it (desktop, iPhone and Android running 2.3). The example course ran smoothly and wonderfully on my desktop, iPad and iPhone, but it was not completely running as it should on my Android phone.

The Acer Iconia which runs Android 3.0 Anyway, I have to say I was more impressed with an Android tablet than I expected to be – hardware wise it was mostly responsive and had the bibs and bobs you’d expect. Even the widescreen format that Android tablets use which I’d found annoying elongated on a Windows 7 tablet was fine in this slimmer device. With B, while there are heaps of Android apps now, only 2000 are optimised for the tablet form factor, which is just unacceptable. However, what I did find lacking was not the device itself but A.

To me, being able to add extra applications to a phone is very important, as applications offer a wide variety of possibilities not necessarily integrated in the basic features of a phone (e.g. do not buy the first android phone, but buy the second version they put out).

At the moment the tool is only accessible for Android version 4.0 or higher, or via the web. Last week I got a message from Stephanie Ray and she asked me to take a look and review Nota , a free mobile collaborative learning platform which is available in a web format and as a mobile app. After playing around a bit with Nota, it sure seems a nice tool. all over again.

As someone who works in the learning world, it’s significant when any organization with hundreds of thousands of learners decides to equip their entire workforce with mobile devices and applications. The article lays out a few of the applications that can be looked at as training applications.
